Fatal Logging Accident, June 11

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 06-10-15 at about 0909 hours, Sumner Fire, assisted by Coquille Ambulance responded to the area of the 26-12-35.1 Road of Blue Ridge in the Sumner District of Coos County Oregon to a report of an injury logging accident. After they arrived they advised the Coos County Sheriff’s Office it was a fatal accident. Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with the Coos County Medical Examiner to the scene to investigate the incident. As the result of the investigation it was learned the yarder operator was pulling in a load of logs to the log landing and when the logs reached the landing one of the logs swung around and struck Darrell Brian Carmichael, age 45 of Myrtle Creek, Oregon and caused his death. Darrell Brian Carmichael was working for JSP Cutting Incorporated out of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, on a thinning project for BLM at the time of his death.
