Transient Tax Vote, Aug. 17

The Coos Co. Board of Commissioners voted Friday to place a proposed 10-percent Transient Lodging Tax on the November ballot. Seventy-percent of the revenue generated by taxing travelers who stay in any motel or lodging facility in the county would be used to promote tourism. The remaining 30-percent would go to law enforcement. The 10-percent tax would generate an estimated $2.7 million based on 2014 lodging figures, according to county officials.
