Visiting Astoria rallied from a 20-10 deficit to North Bend Friday night at Vic Adams Field and won their long road trip game 22-20 handing the Bulldogs their first loss of the 2015 prep season. The Fishermen completed their comeback with 12-seconds remaining on a fourth down TD pass. North Bend (1-1) plays Marist Catholic (1-1) Friday night at Willamette High School in west Eugene.

Marshfield’s football team rolled to 2-0 preseason record with a 53-6 win over visiting Sutherlin Friday night at Pete Susick Stadium in Coos Bay. Senior running back Matt McAllister had 213-yards rushing and for the second straight week, scored three touchdowns. This time he did it on runs of 82, 69 and 39-yards. The Pirates rolled up 323-yards rushing in the first half and led 40-6 at half-time. Marshfield played mostly younger players in the second half. The Pirates travel to Newport (0-2) Friday night.

South Umpqua won their first game of the 2015 prep football season Friday night at North Valley, 58-6. In other 4A Far West League games, Brookings-Harbor won their home opener 40-14 over Illinois Valley. Douglas lost their first game, 34-18 to visiting Hidden Valley in Winston. Siuslaw beat visiting Pleasant Hill 24-6. This week’s games have Marshfield (2-0) at Newport (0-2), North Bend (1-1) at Marist Catholic (1-1), Douglas (1-1) at Mazama (Klamath Falls) (1-1), Banks (2-0) at South Umpqua (1-1), Yreka at Brookings-Harbor (1-1), and Siuslaw (2-0) at Hidden Valley (2-0).

Marshfield’s volleyball team was perfect at the Cottage Grove Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Pirates won all five matches and all of their sets. Marshfield beat Seaquem, B.C. 25-10, 25-20; downed Delphian 25-8, 25-11; and, again over Delphian 25-14, 25-9; over Cottage Grove 26-24, 26-24; and Seaquem, B.C. again 25-12, 25-7. The Lady Pirates are 3-0 and will open 4A Far West League play on Monday with Brookings-Harbor in Coos Bay, and then host Hidden Valley at home Tuesday in a non-league match

North Bend’s boys finished 15th and the Bulldog girls 13th at the Ash Creek XC Festival in Monmouth Saturday. Marshfield took one runner, senior Sawyer Heckard, to the meet. He finished 12th overall in 16:28.8, and was the top 4A runner. North Bend’s boys were led by junior Michael Brown 20th 16:39.5. Other Bulldogs: 51 George LaGesse 17:29.3; 122 Jacob Gage 19:25.2; 126 Tyson Flitcroft 19:33.3; 131 Chandler Pruett 19:40.3; 145 Donovan Oakes 20:10.4; 159 Jacob Adams 21:00.2.
