A 52-year old male, described as a transient, was arrested Tuesday night, Sept. 29, following a fatal hit & run involving an elderly male pedestrian on Libby Lane, southwest of Coos Bay. According to a news release from Coos Co. District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, charges of Felony Failure to Perform the Duties of Driver Involved in an Accident will be filed Wednesday in Circuit Court against Edward Todd Tandy Hume. The DA expects he will be arraigned on Thursday, Oct. 1. The hit & run was reported about 4:30 p.m. on the 92000 block of Libby Lane. The victim’s name is not being released, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators obtained at least one driveway video that showed the suspect vehicle, a white or light gray in color mini-van leaving the accident scene. The Coos Co. Crash Team was activated and responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The suspect vehicle was located on Cascade Lane in Coos Bay about 6:40 p.m. It had been dropped off for repairs to its front end. Witnesses identified the suspect who presented himself to the Coos Bay Police Dept. about 8 p.m. Hume was also charged with outstanding arrest warrants for Unlawful Possession of Meth and Failure to Appear in the First Degree. Deputies took him into custody on the Felony Hit & Run charge and transported him to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.
