Motivational Interviewing Workshop at Southwestern
Southwestern Oregon Community College’s University Center and Oregon State University (OSU) Open Campus, in conjunction with Coos Health & Wellness is offering a Motivational Interviewing workshop, designed for evoking intrinsic motivation for positive behavior change. At the conclusion of this workshop participants will be able to understand the paradox of change, describe the key principles of Motivational Interviewing, use key listening skills, assess a client’s readiness to change, provide feedback, information, and advice in a motivation-enhancing way. The two-day workshop will be held on January 28 and 29, 2016 from 8:00am to 4:00pm each day at Southwestern Oregon Community College, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay, Empire Hall, Lakeview E. This training provides an excellent opportunity for staff to gain knowledge and skills to implement this evidenced-based technique, without the added expense of out of town travel and lodging. The workshop presenter, Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD is a registered dietitian who has been incorporating Motivational Interviewing into her clinical practice for 14 years. Participants of her trainings are guided through a sequence of learning activities to explore and shape counseling practice behavior, and to begin a process for developing proficiency in MI.
