Coos Bay, Oregon – The Star of Hope Activity Center, Inc., has been awarded a grant by the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation in the amount of $10,000.00. Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation’s Mission is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthen youth and family, provide positive youth development, and add to the quality of life for people in Southwestern Oregon. Since its founding in 1997 the CCUIF has awarded over $15,000,000.00 in grants to non-profit organizations. Star of Hope Activity Center is a non-profit organization founded in 1964 to provide services to adults with developmental disabilities in Coos County. The Center provides an array of comprehensive programs such as; Customized Employment, Recycling and Material Pickup, Confidential Document Destruction, Residential Services, Vocational Assessments, Job Coaching & Training at no cost to the employer and many other services including special hand-crafted Myrtlewood items made at The Oregon Connection/House of Myrtlewood. The grant award will be used in the Sustainable Jobs Expansion Project to; 1) increase revenues resulting from increased recycling activities, 2) increase the number of clients directly working in the Sustainable Jobs program and 3) increase the number of clients receiving vocational services from Star of Hope.
