The Coast Guard is searching for three fishermen after their vessel capsized more than 1 mile off the entrance to Coos Bay, Tuesday, Jan. 19. A Coast Guard Air Station North Bend MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew along with a Coast Guard Station Coos Bay 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew is on scene searching for the missing fishermen. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard District 13 Command Center were notified of the vessel in distress after they picked up a signal from an electronic position indicating radio beacon, which prompted the launch of both the helicopter and the MLB crews. One of the four fishermen made their way to shore where they were picked up by a good Samaritan and dropped off at Air Station North Bend. His current condition unknown. “Coast Guard Sector North Bend personnel will utilize multiple assets to saturate the search area in an effort to locate the missing fishermen,” said Coast Guard Capt. Michael Trimpert, Commander, Coast Guard Sector North Bend. Weather on scene at the time of the incident was reported as 31 mph winds and 8 to10-foot seas.
