The Coos Bay School Board has approved a separation agreement and accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dawn Granger, effective June 30, 2016. Ms. Granger will continue to serve as Superintendent for the remainder of this school year while the District conducts a search for her successor. “The Coos Bay School District employs many talented and dedicated teachers, administrators and staff,” wrote Superintendent Granger in her letter of resignation. “I sincerely appreciate the opportunity I have had to serve this District and look forward to serving as Superintendent of another district in the coming year.” Superintendent Granger is in the second year of a three-year contract. Under the separation agreement, the District will pay her the value of the third year of her contract upon her departure at the end of this school year. In an accompanying press release, the Board also stated that it “has concluded its investigation of complaints filed by District administrators and staff and others against Superintendent Dawn Granger. . . . The School Board has determined that Superintendent Granger did not violate District policies or state laws nor did she engage in unethical behavior.” “I want to thank Superintendent Granger for her past and on-going service to this District,” said School Board Chair James Martin. “I also want to emphasize that the Board remains committed to the continual improvement of education in our District that has been the focus of Superintendent Granger’s efforts.” The Board will begin the recruitment and hiring process for the next Superintendent immediately.
