Brookings-Harbor had already clinched the 2016 girl’s Far West League basketball title a week earlier, but the race for second is still on even though the regular season came to end last Friday night. The champion Bruins beat visiting South Umpqua 74-17, while Douglas downed Marshfield 39-36 in overtime at Winston, and North Bend bettered Siuslaw 51-30 at home to forge a three-way tie for second and league playoff games to sort out the final FWL standings. Marshfield won a draw right after the game with Douglas and received a bye. North Bend and Douglas will play Monday night, 7 p.m., at Coquille. The winner will play the Lady Pirates Tuesday night, 7 p.m., also at Coquille to determine second and third. Monday’s loser will be fourth. The OSAA rankings end Tuesday night, 10 p.m., and the top four in the FWL all have a good shot at making the playoffs. The Bruins would have the bye as league champs, while second and third are in the “Play-In” round with a possibility that the fourth place team could also qualify because of the three team’s rankings in the teens: BH 5; NB 15; Doug 16; MHS 18. Final FWL standings: BH 10-0 (20-4); MHS 6-4 (15-9); NB 6-4 (14-7); Doug 6-4 (14-8); Siu 1-9 (5-17); SU 1-9 (2-21).
