Southwestern Student Wins National AAWCC Scholarship!, March 9

Southwestern Oregon Community College student Jonna Jorgensen was one of six community college students selected for the 2015-2016 American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) National scholarship! This prestigious award is presented by AAWCC, an affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges, and a leading national organization that mentors women and encourages them to reach their full potential. Scholarship recipients were selected based on their noteworthy academic accomplishments, community involvement, and contributions made in support of women’s issues at their respective community colleges. In addition to receiving the $500 scholarship, Ms. Jorgensen will receive a one-year AAWCC membership which will allow her to further enhance women’s college experiences on campus and beyond. In June 2015, Ms. Jorgensen graduated from Southwestern with three associate’s degrees. Currently working on her Certified Nursing Assistant license, she plans to pursue a nursing degree. She’s been employed at a local care facility and is a Oregon caregiver. Jonna’s extracurricular activities have included serving as the College’s Associated Student Government President, being a member of the campus Z-Club (Zonta), and working as a student employee in the Student Services area. The Southwestern Chapter of AAWCC supported Ms. Jorgensen’s scholarship application and is proud of her accomplishments and the impact that she has had in others’ lives.
