Douglas Co. Stabbing Suspect Arrested, March 23

On Friday, March 18th, 2016, just before 1600 hours, Douglas County Communications received a report of a stabbing that occurred in the 2400 block of North Myrtle Road, Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Officers from the Myrtle Creek Police Department responded to the scene, where they contacted 34 year old Kevin Reed, of Myrtle Creek. Reed reported he had suffered a stab wound from 43 year old Joseph Rufra, also of Myrtle Creek, during an argument over a parked vehicle. Reed also reported that Rufra then placed him in a choke hold until he passed out. Reed refused medical treatment at the scene. Deputies attempted to make contact with Rufra at his residence, but he refused to come out. After an hour long stand-off, Rufra voluntarily came out of the residence and surrendered. Rufra was arrested at the scene without further incident and lodged at the Douglas County Jail. Rufra was charged with Assault II, Menacing, Strangulation, and for an outstanding warrant of Interfering with a Police Officer.
