Preliminary information indicates a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle was traveling eastbound on Highway 26 when if crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe. Both vehicles came to rest on Highway 26. The driver of the Volkswagen, Linda L CUSHING, age 69, of Fullerton, California, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Susan R ATKINS, age 61, of Madras, was taken by ambulance to Saint Charles Medical Center in Madras for minor injuries. A passenger in the Chevrolet, Virginia ATKINS, age 88, of Madras, was also was taken by ambulance to Saint Charles Medical Center in Madras for minor injuries. Highway 26 was closed in both directions for approximately an hour and a half before one lane was opened. OSP was assisted by the Warm Springs Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Warm Springs EMS, Jefferson County Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
