Armed Robbery over “Bong”, April 19

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On April 17, 2016, at approximately 0814 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Bandon Police Department Officers responded to 87474 16th St SW, Bandon, Coos County, OR for a disturbance. The report was of a male suspect named Mike who had come to the residence and threatened the resident with a black semi-automatic handgun and a fixed-blade knife. The incident had reportedly stemmed from an argument over ownership of a $200 bong, and resulted in the suspect eventually forcing his way inside the trailer and taking the bong. Upon arrival, Deputies contacted the reporting party, 19 year old Derek Kilcoyne who lives at the address on 16th Street. Mr. Kilcoyne re-affirmed what was initially reported and identified the suspect as 21 year old Bandon resident, Michael Baker. Mr. Kilcoyne was not injured in the incident. At approximately 0918 hours, Deputies and Officers relocated to 975 Grand Ave, Bandon, Coos County, OR and contacted the suspect who lived there. There, Deputies were also able to retrieve the knife, the bong, and the realistic-looking BB pistol handgun from inside the residence for evidence. As a result of the investigation, Deputies arrested Michael E. Baker for ORS 164.415 – Robbery I, ORS 164.405 – Robbery II, ORS 164.225 – Burglary I, ORS 163.190 – Menacing, ORS 166.220 – Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and ORS – 164.045 Theft II; being held at the Coos County Jail on $895,000 bail.
