Willamette River Drowning, June 7

On June 5, 2016 at about 4:15PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a swimmer who had disappeared underwater and hadn’t been seen for minutes at Mission State Park near Wheatland Ferry Boat Ramp. Emergency crews arrived and attempted to locate the swimmer without immediate success. At about 9PM, a dive team located the deceased swimmer in the area he had disappeared. Preliminary investigation revealed the swimmer Dagoberto NAVA CASTRO, age 36, from Woodburn had jumped off a dock, resurfaced but then disappeared. NAVA CASTRO was not wearing a flotation device and this area of the river has swift undercurrents.
