Infant Shot, June 9

On Tuesday, June 7th, 2016, at about 4:18 p.m., Douglas County Communications received a report from Brookelyn Weiker, age 25 of Glide, that her 18 month old male child was accidentally shot by an unknown male while she and the child were hiking in the Idleyld Park area. The male was reported to have run off into the woods after the shooting. Weiker then drove the child to the Glide Ranger Station for help. The child was taken to Mercy Medical Center and later flown to OHSU in Portland for treatment of a single gunshot wound. The child is expected to survive the injury. Responding Deputies became suspicious of Wieker’s statement. When confronted with inconsistencies, Weiker admitted that she was with her boyfriend Bradley Karl Allen, age 23 of Glide, in a wooded area outside of Idleyld Park, when Allen accidentally shot the child with a .22 caliber firearm. Allen fled, as he is a convicted felon, and is also currently wanted for a Parole Violation. Deputies searched the Glide and Idleyld Park area, but were unable to locate Allen. The search for Allen continues, and the case is still under investigation. Allen is potentially armed and should not be confronted. If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Allen, they are requested to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 541 440 4471. Update: Earlier today, June 8th, 2016, Bradley Allen was arrested by Sheriff’s Dectives at a residence in the Green District south of Roseburg. He was lodged in the county jail, and the weapon that was believed to be used in the incident was recovered by Detectives.
