Southwestern Oregon Community College hosts its 55th annual commencement on Friday, June 10, 2016. The 2016 Class includes 385 graduates from 21 states and 3 countries. Graduates will leave Southwestern with a variety of degrees and certificates in science, business, arts and other fields. Graduates have earned 167 Associates of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) and 15 Associates of Science Oregon Transfer (ASOT) degrees and will move on to bachelor’s degree programs; 148 will receive Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees; 13 will receive Associate of General Studies (AGS) degrees; 23 Associate of Science (AS) degrees; and 19 students earned Certificates of Completion. Some students attained multiple degrees and certificates while acquiring an AAOT, ASOT or AAS degree. Southwestern is committed to working closely with our local high schools to help students get a jump start on their college education. This year, two students from Marshfield High School, one from North Bend High School, and one from Winter Lakes High School will be receiving their Associates degree from Southwestern, along with their High School Diplomas! Twenty-two students have obtained bachelor’s degrees and 11 earned master’s degrees through the college’s University Center in partnership with the Higher Education Coordinating Commission. Sign language interpretation will be provided for the ceremony, which is a ticketed event beginning at 7 p.m. in the Coos Campus Prosper Hall gymnasium, 1988 Newmark Ave. Graduates and their guests are also invited to attend a reception in the Recreation Center gymnasium following the program. Overflow seating is available in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts, where the event will be shown live on the theater screen.
