Southwestern’s Oregon Coast Culinary Institute’s Culinary Competition Team traveled to Bellingham, WA for an annual competition hosted by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) and the Washington State Chefs Association. The event was held at Bellingham Technical College on May 13 and 14, 2016. All four team members that competed won medals from the ACF for their efforts; three were in the Student Hot Food category and one was in the Student Pastry category. In the Hot Food category the following students won gold medals: Nathan Haritash prepared a lamb dish. Alana Askew prepared a fish dish. Faith Amend prepared a chicken dish. And in the Student Pastry category Kirsten Burt won a bronze medal. The students were successful with the assistance of the other team members including Tesia Campbell, Jasmine Howard, Annie Sargent, Wyatt Kosalka and Del Clark. Team Manager Randy Torres CEC AAC, was pleased with the outcome of the competition saying, “I am so proud of our team, once again they showed the rest of the culinary community that Oregon Coast Culinary Institute is a top ranked culinary school.”
