Rescue in Douglas Co., July 19

On 07/16/16 at approximately 3:30 PM, Douglas County Emergency Communications received a call of a youth who had fallen from the trail by Lemolo Falls. The 17 year old male from Medford, Oregon, had been hiking along the North Umpqua Trail near Lemolo Lake when, as he was trying to get a better view of the falls, he lost his footing and fell over 50 feet down the mountain toward the river. The teen’s mother ran to a location where she was able to get cell reception to make a call to the 911 center. The Douglas County Search and Rescue unit responded and was assisted by Douglas County Fire District #2. The teen was located approximately 1 1/2 miles from the trail head down an embankment. He was taken by rescue personnel to a waiting ambulance and then transported by AirLink to Rogue Valley Medical Center. No information was given as to the extent of the teens injuries at this time.
