Coos Bay Public Library invites the public to learn more about “Leaven No Trace”, one local man’s commitment to cleaning up toxic waste in Coos County on Monday, August 1st at 7:00 p.m. Locals may have seen Raymond Block’s work in stacks and stacks of dumped tires on Libby Lane or Seven Devil’s Road; or the driftwood sign north of town on highway 101. Since January, Block has collected over 50 tons of trash working from sun up to sundown often in the company of volunteers. Coos County had granted a waiver allowing Block deposit the tires and other trash on the roadside to be picked up. Les’ Sanitation was picking up the piles free of charge to the county. The waiver was revoked in June and the County Solid Waste Department will no longer accept tires and trash free of charge. This hasn’t deterred Block from continuing his efforts to make Coos County a cleaner, healthier place. Block will share his stories of the incredible amounts and types of debris he has encountered and the various ways the community can help. This free program, sponsored by the Friends of Coos Bay Public Library, is open to the public. For more information call 541.269.1101 or visit http://www.coosbaylibrary.org.
