The art of local artist David Orion Callahan is on display at Coos Bay Public Library through August 31st. Callahan has traveled and lived in many states in the U.S., forming his artistic style. He has a degree in Political Science from the University of Virginia and has attended community college courses in art history and studio. He views his work as mysterious, evocative, political, philosophical, and fun. His current exhibit is titled “Spider Kelly’s Ball.” It is a “celebration of color, the environment, and the balance we fight for that makes the world go round.” The series merges abstract minimalism with eco-found objects found along the Oregon coast. Callahan says “I don’t believe in purity, I believe in balance – so with the organics we also have glues, WRAPPERS, etc. Science, music and mathematics are key influences as well as the Pacific Rim graphic pallet. My work is meant to be conversation with the viewer, and hoping they find happiness and solace.”
