On October 12, 2016 at about 2:10AM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 5 near milepost 117 northbound(south of Roseburg). Preliminary information indicates a 2000 Mercedes sport utility was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 when it drifted onto the shoulder and lost control. The vehicle exited the highway and rolled several times coming to rest near residences on Nugget Lane (adjacent to the interstate). A 36 year old adult male passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation has revealed he was not wearing his safety belt. The 34 year old female driver and her two juvenile passengers were taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. All occupants were residents of Vancouver, Wa. OSP was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Transportation, Douglas Fire District 2 and Winston Dillard Fire. The names of the adults are being withheld pending sufficient time for the family to make notifications. Update: The name of the driver in this crash was identified as Veronica GUILLEM PEREZ, age 34, of Vancouver. The deceased passenger was identified as Edgar RANGLE RIVERA, age 36, of Vancouver.
