Tried to swap Pot for Snowmobile, Oct. 18

On October 15, 2016 at 7:22 p.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) Troopers cited Jason OWEN, age 29, of Sandy, for Adult Possession of Marijuana, Adult Delivery of Marijuana and Driving while Suspended Misdemeanor, following an investigation into an attempted purchase of a snowmobile on Craigslist with marijuana. Preliminary information indicates that earlier in the week, Mr. Owen had contacted the owner of a snowmobile on Craigslist and asked if the owner would consider a pound of marijuana as trade for the snowmobile. The owner of the snowmobile happened to be an Oregon State Trooper out of the Salem Area Command. The Trooper immediately notified his supervisor, who suggested a consultation with the Oregon State Police Drug Enforcement Section. On October 15, 2016 the Trooper agreed to meet Mr. Owen and discuss the trade at the Pilot gas station in Brooks, Oregon. An unmarked police vehicle observed the suspect driving around in the parking lot. Several marked patrol cars initiated a traffic stop. Upon contact, the Trooper identified himself and explained that Mr. Owen was committing a crime. Mr. Owen possessed one and a half pounds of marijuana in his vehicle. Mr. Owen’s vehicle was impounded due to his suspended driving status and he was cited and released on scene for the possession and delivery of marijuana as well as driving while suspended-misdemeanor. A 26 year old female passenger was not charged during the incident. In Oregon, it’s legal for adults 21 and older to possess and use recreational marijuana but there are limits. All sales and purchases must be made through an OLCC retailer or an Oregon Health Authority registered medical marijuana dispensary.
