Oregon Statewide Veteran’s Day Activities, Nov. 11

The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs has compiled an online directory of Veterans Day ceremonies, parades and other special events honoring the nation’s veterans happening across Oregon, which is searchable by an alphabetized list and an interactive map. The directory can be found on the agency’s blog at http://oregondva.com/blog/2016/10/17/2016-statewide-veterans-day-events. Questions about the page can be directed to the ODVA Communications and Public Information team at 503-373-2389. ODVA is also organizing its annual Statewide Veterans Day Celebration to take place at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 in Salem. For the first time ever, the event will be held on the grounds of the Oregon State Capitol at the World War II Memorial, in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor later this year. The event will include two guest speakers, WWII Army nurse Jean Wojnowski and Iraq/Afghanistan Army veteran Dave Hagen, and a performance of the national anthem by Korean War veteran Dan Strite. ODVA Director Cameron Smith will serve as the master of ceremonies, and military honors will be presented by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Color Guard.
