Film Noir Series at CBPL, Nov. 18

The FILM NOIR series at Coos Bay Public Library continues on Sunday, November 20th at 4:00.   The classic 1946 American film noir “The Blue Dahlia” is this month’s feature. Hollywood legends Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake team up for a masterfully told tale of suspense and intrigue in the classic noir tradition. When discharged navy officer Johnny Morrison (Ladd) comes home from war to his home in the Hollywood Hills, he is shocked to discover his wife Helen (Doris Dowling) having an affair with a shady nightclub owner (Howard Da Silva). When his wife is murdered later that evening, Johnny becomes a prime suspect and is forced to prove his innocence. Unexpected help comes in the shape of Joyce Harwood (a sultry Lake), a woman with a surprising connection to the murder – she’s Eddie’s ex for starters.  The screenplay was written by novelist Raymond Chandler, who earned an Academy Award nomination. The Film Noir series is held on the third Sunday of the month. Next month will feature Humphrey Bogart in “In a Lonely Place” on December 18th.  Everyone is welcome at this free program sponsored by The Friends of Coos Bay Public Library.  The Library is located at 525 Anderson Avenue.  Please call 269-1101 or visit coosbaylibrary.org for further information about this program.
