Trespassing at Lumber Mill, Jan. 5

News release CCSO.  On January 3, 2017 at 8:18 am the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft from a logging site on Catching Creek outside Myrtle Point. The company, D and H Logging, reported a red Toyota pickup with two men inside had been at their logging site and took items from a vehicle parked there. The foreman on the site called the dispatch center and reported the vehicle had left. The logging site was on Moore Mill Lumber Company property and the subjects had trespassed to commit the theft. A Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy as well as a Myrtle Point Police Officer responded to the area. The vehicle was located near mile post 1 on Catching Creek with the two men inside. Investigation into the matter led the deputy and Myrtle Point Police to arrest Cody L Johnson, 30 years old, of Coos Bay and Beau Stemen, 35 years old of Coos Bay. The initial report by the logging crew was that a can full can of gas and some rope were taken out of the vehicle. During the investigation with the two men, the can of gas was recovered, which turned out to be coolant, and as well as the rope was recovered. In addition a firearm was seized during the contact with the 2 suspects  due to an obliterated serial number and a short barrel. Investigation into the latter firearms issue is ongoing. Cody Johnson was arrested for Criminal Trespass in the 2nd Degree and Theft in the 3rd Degree. Beau Stemen was arrested on a probation violation. Both were lodged at the Coos County Jail with Mr. Johnson being released on his own recognizance. Mr. Stemen was being held without bail.
