On Friday, January 6th, 2017, at about 5:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle call in the 5400 block of Buckhorn Road, Roseburg. The homeowner reported a white Ford Explorer was stuck in his yard with no one around. At about 5:50 p.m., a resident in the 5200 block of Buckhorn Road called to report a male subject had just been at her residence and forced his way into the house after demanding the keys to her vehicle. The male subject left on foot. At about 6:15 p.m., another resident in the 5200 block of Buckhorn Road called to report her 1998 Ford Explorer had just been stolen from her driveway. At about 7:00 p.m., officers spotted the stolen Explorer traveling eastbound on Hwy 138 near Colliding Rivers. A Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit began. The vehicle reached speeds of 90 mph before turning onto Rock Creek Road and then onto Kelly Creek. The vehicle could not continue in the snowy conditions and became stuck. The driver, Nathan Baker, age 29 of Glide, was taken into custody. Baker was lodged in the county jail on First Degree Burglary, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Attempt to Elude, Unlawful Possession of Heroin, Recklessly Endangering and other charges.
