Stolen PU Arrest, Feb. 22

News release CBPD.  On Sunday February 19, 2017, Coos Bay Police responded to the 1000 block of South 8th Street after a male noticed someone operating his friend’s stolen Toyota pickup in the area.  The vehicle had been reported stolen on February 16, 2017, out of Coquille.  The operator of the stolen vehicle was identified as Derek P. Zavala.  Zavala tried to elude the friend who followed Zavala by driving behind an apartment complex.  Zavala got the stolen vehicle stuck in the wet grass and then fled from the vehicle on foot.  Coos Bay Police Canine “Dak” and his handler responded to the area to help locate Zavala.  K-9 Dak located Zavala hiding in some thick brush about 100 yards from the vehicle.  Zavala was taken into custody by the Coos Bay Police and transported to the Coos County Jail on the alleged charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and resisting arrest where he was booked and released.  A female passenger in the vehicle, identified as Autumn R. McEnroe, is being referred for criminal charges related to this case and drug possession charges.
