Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Instrumental Jazz Band, along with the Umpqua Singers from Umpqua Community College are teaming up with the Liberty Theatre Restoration Committee to present an evening of “All That Jazz” at the theatre (LTOB) on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 7:00 pm. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, and admission is by donation. The Umpqua Singers have graciously offered this concert on the south coast so that the proceeds from the evening can be split between the Southwestern Music Program (for their upcoming trip to New York City) and the Liberty Theatre Restoration. The Umpqua Singers from Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, are one of the premiere vocal jazz ensembles in the Pacific Northwest. This ten-member group performs a broad range of musical styles ranging from traditional swing to contemporary R & B. With 18 CD’s to their credit, the group performs up to 50 engagements per year. The Umpqua Singers have toured across the United States, and were the featured performers at the Capitol Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington D.C. on December 12, 2002. They have also recently toured Spain, Ukraine, Brazil, Ireland, and Hong Kong. In addition to frequent radio and television broadcasts, the Umpqua Singers have been featured on FOX, C-SPAN, and XM Satellite Radio. The Southwestern Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble are headed to the New York City Jazz Festival in April, performing at the world-famous Apollo Theatre. The two organizations will perform their NYC Jazz Festival program preceding the concert by the Umpqua Singers.
