Several local law enforcement agencies participated in a two day sex offender compliance sweep in the Springfield area. The Oregon State Police Sex Offender Registration Unit provided information for 70 sex offenders identified as living in the Springfield area who were out of compliance. This information was researched by State Police Crime Analysts to determine which offenders were no longer living in Oregon, were in custody, or were deceased. That information was provided to the OSP Criminal Division in Springfield where detectives compared the information to local law enforcement data management systems and further refined the group of sex offenders to be contacted. The end result was approximately 40 out of compliance sex offenders. On February 21 and 22nd, 20 out of compliance sex offenders were arrested, 9 predatory sex offenders were contacted and confirmed to be in compliance, and several warrant arrests were made. All sex offenders arrested were also registered by the Springfield Police Department staff or the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Registration staff at the Springfield State Police Office, depending on where the offender was arrested and the level of their offense. Investigators determined that approximately 12 of the sex offenders recently moved out of state and their information is being forwarded to the US Marshal’s Office for additional follow up. A small number of sex offenders were not located, but are most likely still living in the area and there will be continued follow up on their behalf.
