Oregon Coastal Jobless Rate, March 11

The unemployment rate for four of the five complete counties along the Oregon Coast during January was better than the previous month and all were down from the year before. According to a report from the Oregon Employment Dept., the jobless rate in Coos Co. dipped to 9.0%, down from the 9.2% in December and a percent-and-a-half less than the 10.5% rate in January 2013. The rate in Curry Co. was 10.1%, which was slightly up from the 10.0% in December, but more than a percentage point off the 11.2% recorded in January of last year. In Lincoln Co., the rate was 7.3% in January, down from the 7.5% in December and less than the 8.7% from January 2013. In Tillamook Co., the rate was 6.2% in January, a little less than the 6.3% in December, and well off the 7.8% from January of last year. Clatsop Co. continues to have the best rate on the Coast at 5.9% unemployed in January, better than the 6.1% in December and significantly below the 7.4% in January 2013.
