Weather Alert National Weather Service. Impacts – ● Snow on roads may create travel problems. ● Moderate rains will create river rises, but flooding is not expected. Forecast Confidence. ● Medium for moderate rain along the coast and the coastal mountains. ● Low for snow amounts. Timing and Strength – ● Rain: Light rain will begin on Monday afternoon with the heaviest rainfall amounts coming. Monday night through Tuesday afternoon. Rain rates will be less than 0.25 inches per hour. See attached graphic for amounts. ● Snow: Snow levels will start at 5000 to 6000 feet on Monday afternoon and drop to around 4000 feet on Tuesday morning. Light snowfall will begin Monday afternoon with the heaviest snow occurring late Monday night through Tuesday afternoon. Weather Summary – After a quick break in the wet pattern on Sunday, a low pressure system from the Aleutian Islands will dip southward across the Pacific Northwest creating the chance for areas west of the Cascades to see moderate rain and the mountains to see some snowfall. Although this system isn’t too exciting by winter standards, it is unusual because it will arrive late in the season.
