GP Woman Killed in Crash, June 1

On May 30th, 2017, at approximately 3:20PM, OSP was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on SR 260 (Riverbanks Road) near MP 16. A caller reported a crashed vehicle with a person slumped over. OSP Troopers from Grants Pass arrived and found a 2005 Mazda 4-door car that had been traveling westbound on SR 260 when it left the roadway on a sharp left corner. There appeared to be no signs of braking. The vehicle traveled approximately 180 feet through trees and thick brush, making it hard to see from the roadway. As a result of the crash, the driver and single occupant, identified as April Michele OTIS, age 40, from Grants Pass died from her injuries. OTIS was not using a safety belt. OTIS was the subject of a Grants Pass Department of Public Safety call the night before where she had reportedly left her residence in that vehicle while under the influence of medication and alcohol following a domestic disturbance. She was also reportedly making suicidal statements. Otis had been reported missing earlier today after not returning home.
