On June 30, 2017 at approximately 3:05pm, OSP and emergency personnel from Chiloquin Fire responded to a head-on fatal motor vehicle crash on Highway 97 near milepost 259, near the Upper Klamath Lake. Preliminary investigation revealed that a maroon 1992 Ford Tempo, operated by Gregory John GUIDI, age 63, of Klamath Falls was traveling northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 259, when for an unknown reason the Ford drove into the southbound lane of travel. The Ford collided head-on with a black 2015 Dodge Ram 1500, operated by Robert L. HOUGEN, age 51, and passenger Phyllis N. HOUGEN, age 53, of Chiloquin. Gregory GUIDI suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene after lifesaving measures were performed by EMS. Both Robert and Phyllis HOUGEN were transported by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center with serious injuries. Safety restraints were not utilized and it is believed that intoxicants are not a contributing factor.
