Critical Injuries Marion Co., July 3

On July 1, 2017 at approximately 4:09AM, the Oregon State Police and emergency medical personnel responding to a serious injury motor vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near milepost 243, in Marion County. Preliminary investigation revealed that a black 1998 Ford Explorer, operated by Donaldo Abel PENA, age 20 of Wilsonville, was traveling southbound on I5 near milepost 243 when for an unknown reason the Ford lost control, flipped over the jersey barrier and came to rest on it’s top in the northbound A lane of travel. A tan 2000 Ford F250, operated by Robert Walter MAY JR, age 63 of Albany, was unable to avoid colliding with the Ford Explorer in the A lane of travel. Robert MAY JR and his passenger, Drew HENDERSON, age 24 of Jefferson, were not injured as a result of the collision. The driver of the Ford Explorer, Donaldo Abel PENA sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Salem Hospital. The passenger, of the Ford Explorer Miguel HERNANDEZ-CUESTA, age 21 of Wilsonville, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Salem Hospital. Interstate 5 northbound was closed to one lane of traffic for approximately 5 hours. Safety restraints were not utilized and it is believed that intoxicants are a contributing factor to this crash.
