Coos Bay Parks Commission, March 20

The Coos  Bay Parks Commission will meet on Thursday, March 20, 2014, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, City Hall Conference Room, 500 Central Avenue.  AGENDA:  CALL TO ORDER – Roll Call – Approval of the Minutes; CITIZEN INPUT / PUBLIC COMMENT; UNFINISHED BUSINESS; NEW BUSINESS; • Patricia Davis will present her proposal for a memorial for the Mingus Park Swan, “Lady.”  (currently council has placed a moratorium on any new memorials in Mingus Park.)  “II LASTING MEMORIALS: Memorials may be dedicated in the form of park enhancements [i.e.: benches, picnic table, play apparatus, sculpture or other approved feature(s): All requests for lasting memorials must be submitted in writing to Public Works Department. The available selection is to be determined by the PWD and will take into account standardization and design considerations. Benches will be identified with a dedicatory plaque. Picnic tables-PWD will provide a standard unit for this purpose. A small plaque will be attached to the table to identify the memorialized person / group / organization. Park Apparatus – individual requests for memorial play equipment, sculptures and/or other park equipment or components will be considered based on their potential impact, suitability and compatibility within the park. Costs for memorials will be based on material costs (if fabricated in-house) or prevailing wholesale market costs, depending upon the design standard. All costs for fabrication (including engraving) will be borne by the donor.”  • Friends of Mingus Park meeting with Christine and Randy. Christine will update the commission.  • KBCY PR meeting on March 31st.  Christine and Randy to attend at noon.  • Mingus Pool (Grant status.  Grant is due April 4th.  Randy will submit the grant application the week prior to due date.  COMMISSIONER’S CLOSING COMMENTS.  Meeting will adjourn at 5:00 p.m.
