Escape from Jail, July 28

On Thursday, July 27, 2017, an inmate of the Douglas County Jail escaped from the facility before being apprehended by Roseburg Police and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Deputies. 36 year-old Leonel Jimenez of Yuba, California, was in custody for non-violent property crimes. He was able to gain access to an exit door at 11:05 am. Law enforcement personnel began looking for the escaped inmate and eventually located him in the 300-block of Pine Street in Roseburg at 12:37 pm. Jimenez was taken into custody without incident and charged with Escape II, Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle and Theft III. Jimenez was not considered to be a threat to the public during his escape. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently reviewing the incident and will take measures to prevent further occurrences. In order to provide for the safety and security of the jail, details of the escape will not be provided at this time.
