Hwy. 42 Fatal, July 31

On July 27, 2017 at about 3:30PM, OSP Troopers and first responders responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 42 near milepost 62 (west of Winston). Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Yamaha V-Star motorcycle, operated by Tommy SARRATT, age 69, from Roseburg, was westbound on Highway 42 and failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle crossed the center line where it collided with an eastbound 2015 Dodge Durango, operated by Jonathan EASTWOOD, age 63, from Glide. SARRATT was ejected and the motorcycle continued and came to a rest partially in the westbound lane. SARRATT was transported with critical injuries to Mercy Medical Center via air ambulance. SARRATT died from injuries sustained in the crash shortly after arriving at the hospital. EASTWOOD sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by first responders. OSP is continuing the investigation into the crash. EASTWOOD was wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash. SARRATT was wearing a motorcycle helmet. Highway 42 was closed for about 90 minutes.
