News release CBPL. The “Armchair Film Adventure” series at Coos Bay Public Library continues on Tuesday, September 12th at 2:00 p.m. in the Myrtlewood Meeting Room. “Pacific Journeys: Tonga to New Caledonia” is this month’s destination. Globe Trekker Zay Harding travels across the Pacific to the independent Kingdom of Tonga and then on to multi-cultural Fiji — once home to cannibals and Indian plantation workers that were brought to the islands to harvest sugar cane. He visits the Stonehenge of Polynesia: the Ha amonga, before flying to the island of Eua, and on to Fiji’s main island Viti Levu, to take in the culture and tour the breathtaking Sri Siva Subramaniya Hindu temple. After visiting Norfolk Island, he finishes in the French dependency of New Caledonia, meeting indigenous people in Hienghene and Tiedonit and trekking to the Tao waterfall. Zay ends his journey in Noumea, where the Kanak people’s culture is celebrated at the Tibijao Cultural Center, an architectural marvel that combines ancient knowledge with modern techniques. Everyone is welcome at this program sponsored by The Friends of Coos Bay Public Library. No admission is charged and refreshments will be provided.
