Jamie Weisner scored 21 points and Gabriella Hanson added 16 but it wasn’t enough as Oregon State’s spectacular season came to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Tuesday 78-69 to the Stanford Regional top-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The Beavers couldn’t overcome a subpar shooting night, hitting 38.5 percent from the field, and serious foul trouble that forced Weisner, Hanson and Ruth Hamblin out of the game. Three other OSU players ended with four personals during a stretch when the team was fouling to lengthen the game; No. 8 overall and SEC champion South Carolina took advantage of the opportunities making 34-of-43 free throw attempts compared to the Beavers’ 9-of-18. The Beavers finished the season 24-11 overall and tied for second in the Pac-12 Conference – after being predicted to finish eighth in the league by the coaches. It was the first NCAA Tournament appearance for OSU since 1996 and head coach Scott Rueck was the Pac-12 Coach of the Year as selected by the media.

With a solo blast in the second inning, Kailee Cuico became Oregon’s all-time leader in career home runs and the Ducks defeated Southern Utah, 8-0, in five innings on Tuesday afternoon in a neutral site game at BYU’s Gail Miller Field. The win was head coach Mike White’s 200th victory with the Ducks. He has a record of 200-69 in his fifth season at UO. Oregon run ruled its 11th opponent of the season as the Ducks (27-3) tallied eight runs on 11 hits with no errors while the Thunderbirds (10-18) scored no runs on five hits with one error.
