The Department of Human Services has issued a request for application for private and non-profit entities to approve dementia training required under House Bill 3359. HB3359 passed during the 2017 Legislative Session. This omnibus bill contains a number of improvements designed to increase the quality and safety of care provided to Oregonians in long-term care settings, such as adult foster homes and assisted living facilities. HB3359 requires all direct care staff to undergo pre-service training prior to working in a long-term care setting. Additionally, six hours of continuing education in dementia care must be completed by direct care staff each year. HB3359 requires all training curricula to be approved by qualified private and non-profit entities. The Department of Human Services is seeking applications from private and non-profit entities with sufficient experience and expertise to approve the required training curricula under HB3359.
