The 2017/18 commercial crab season in Oregon’s waters is still on hold. The season normally starts the first of December and runs through August. However, meat content was determined to be less than an allowable level and the start of the season was delayed until Jan. 15, 2018. Now, the price offered by processors to start the season is being seen as less than desirable by the commercial fishermen who have been idling in port for over a month. According to sources, the processors offered a starting rate of $2.30 lb., that’s far below the $2.89 average of last season.
