Law enforcement officials played a “Cat & Mouse” game to arrest the suspect in a hammer attack of another male at a bar in Coquille Wednesday, Jan. 18. Richard Eugene Dockery was taken into custody early Thursday morning, Jan. 18, as he attempted to enter his residence. According to a news release from Coos Co. District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, authorities believed if they “stood down”, remove their presence from the area, the 46-year old might return to his home for shelter. A surveillance was set up, and Dockery was seen about 5:45 a.m. and arrested without incident. He was transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille. Dockery was identified as the suspect after he attacked Dan Navarro without provocation inside the Four Seasons Bar on West Central Blvd. about 4:34p.m., with a claw hammer. After other patrons intervened, Dockery fled the bar. Navarro was transported to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield with a fractured skull. According to Frasier, Dockery will be charged with Attempted Murder and Assault in the First Degree. He is expected to be in Court for arraignment Friday morning, 8:15 a.m.
