Hostage at DQ on Central Coast, Feb. 21

On February 18, 2018 at 10:58 pm, the Lincoln City Police Department received a request for a welfare check at the Dairy Queen Restaurant located at 2224 NE Highway 101. LCPD Sergeant Randy Weaver arrived at the business at around 11:03 pm and started checking the building. Weaver saw an unknown male inside the business and attempted contact, but the male ran away from Weaver and into the interior of the business. After LCPD Officer KC Claunts arrived on scene, Claunts and Weaver contained the male inside the business while they waited for Officers Greg Hirsch and Erik Anderson to arrive for assistance. The unknown male, later identified as Chase Martin, DOB 07-26-1991, was seen holding another male as a hostage and shield from the police. The second male was later identified as the owner of the Dairy Queen Restaurant, Ill Woo Park. Officer Claunts was able to gain entry into the business at which time Martin was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Robbery I, Kidnap I, Assault IV, Attempted Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Attempted Theft I, Criminal Mischief II, and Theft III.
