Marshfield’s basketball teams returned to the Bay Area with hardware from the OSAA 4A Basketball Tournament at Forest Grove. The Lady Pirates (27-2) completed the season with the First Place Trophy after beating Banks in the title game 48-41 Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Tess Garrett was named to the All Tourney First Team as was junior McKayla Myrand. The boys (21-7) grabbed the Fourth Place Trophy after junior Chase Howerton hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to force the game against La Grande into overtime. The Pirates prevailed 69-64. Pirate junior Grant Webster was the only unanimous selection to the All Tourney First Team. Defending state champion Seaside made it a Coastal sweep of the 4A championships with a 48-44 win over Valley Catholic of Beaverton. It was the second straight year the two Cowapa League teams met for the state title.
