Odin’s 61st, CCSO release. On the evening of March 13th 2018 information was relayed from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office regarding a woman reporting she had been involved in a domestic dispute. Investigation of the call showed the victim was in the Coos Bay area. Further, she had fled from a vehicle when her boyfriend stopped at the Pacific Pride fuel station south of Coos Bay. The Oregon State Police became the primary agency. During the investigation it was determined the man who was involved was a convicted felon and was in possession of a firearm and made threats to law enforcement. This individual who was identified as Javier B. Munoz 39 YOA from Salem was also found to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. Multiple officers from several agencies attempted to locate Mr. Munoz. He was eventually located by the Oregon State Police as Mr. Munoz was driving eastbound on Highway 42 near Milepost 29. The Oregon State Police Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle but Mr. Munoz made a U-turn and nearly struck the State Trooper’s patrol car as he fled westbound on Highway 42 at high rate of speed. The Trooper lost sight of the suspect who subsequently crashed near milepost 28 on Hwy 42. Mr. Munoz then fled on foot into the woods at that location. Officers from Coquille PD, Myrtle Point PD and Coos County SO arrived to assist. Coos County Sheriff’s Office K9 Odin was called to the scene for a criminal apprehension track of a possibly armed suspect. K9 Odin with handler Sergeant Adam Slater and a Trooper tracked along an old logging road on the north side of Highway 42. K9 Odin found the suspect near an old logging landing hiding in a wooded area. The suspect, Mr. Munoz, failed to comply with commands to surrender. After a brief struggle Mr. Munoz was taken into custody. Mr. Munoz was treated on scene for minor injuries from the crash and bite wounds from K9 Odin. The vehicle was totaled as a result of the crash. A loaded pistol was recovered from inside of the car. Mr. Munoz was criminally charged with: Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering Person, Fail To Perform Duties in Accident (Property Damage), Attempt To Elude (Vehicle), Attempt To Elude (Foot), Criminal Trespass 2, and Possession of Firearm By Felon. He was issued several violation citations and warnings. An additional charge of Theft will be referred for the phone and luggage belonging to the female. This capture was the 61st one of K9 Odin’s 2 and a half year career.
