Fatal on Hwy. 26, April 10

On Sunday, April 8th at approximately 9:00AM, Oregon State Police responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 approximately five miles east of Necanicum near milepost 13.  Initial investigation revealed a 2006 Audi was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2009 Jeep Cherokee. This section of the highway consists of four-lanes.  It appears the Audi was in the westbound lanes when the driver lost control and crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck the Jeep in the right-hand eastbound lane. The driver of the Audi was identified as 19 year old Jesus M RAMIREZ-CORTES, from Milwaukie.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Jeep was identified as 63 year old Sylvia L KEARNS, from Vancouver.  Both drivers were utilizing their safety restraints and neither vehicle had any passengers.  Alcohol use is being considered as a contributing factor.  Highway 26 was completely shut down for approximately one hour then restricted for another three while the crash was being investigated.
