Council Meeting Date: April 15, 2014 – Council Action Taken: The Coos Bay City Council unanimously approved a proclamation designating the waters of Coos Bay as the Tall Ship Port of Oregon, and encouraged the public to be involved in events that honor this Bay’s tall ship history. Council Comments: Councilor Tom Leahy, who is a founding member of the Coos Bay Boat Building Center, is involved in bringing the tall ships to Coos Bay, May 2 – 11, 2014. “Tall ships promote the heritage of the cities on the Bay,” said Leahy. “There were shipyards around the Bay in Empire City, old-town North Bend.
