School is out, what’s next? Numerous studies show that most youth lose about two months of grade-level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months, and summer learning loss accounts for about two-thirds of the achievement gap in reading. Stemming this summer learning loss is a critical component of keeping youth on track to graduate and prepared for a GREAT Future. The Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon is determined to help young people fight summer learning loss by providing a summer program that is both fun and engaging. The Boys & Girls Club Summer Program has begun and includes the following programs, camps and activities: Youth Center Enrichment Programs – These summer programs follow a weekly theme that adds engaging, educational activities to the typical summer camp experience for youth ages 6 to 18.
