Coos County’s seasonally adjusted July unemployment rate decreased slightly to 5.0 percent from a revised 5.1 percent in June. The rate is below the July 2017 rate (5.7%). Oregon’s seasonally adjusted July unemployment rate was 3.9 percent; the national rate was also 3.9 percent. Overall, the county’s total payroll employment reflected losses associated with the end of the school year. However, private payroll employment reported modest gains across most sectors. Coos County added 140 jobs over the year ending in July for a 0.6 percent annual job change. Curry County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 5.5 percent from a revised 5.7 percent in June. The rate is below the July 2017 rate of 6.1 percent. Curry County’s total nonfarm payroll employment increased over the month by 40 jobs.
