On Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at about 5:30pm, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle head on crash on Hwy 26 at milepost 74. Preliminary investigation revealed that a red 2000 Ford E-350, operated by Lanny Hawley, age 65, of Gresham, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 26 when for unknown reasons crossed over the center line into westbound traffic and struck a black 2016 GMC Terrain, operated by Kyle Estes, age 52, of Medford. Estes was pronounced deceased on scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Hawley was air lifted to a trauma hospital in Bend for critical injuries. Hwy 26 was closed for approximately six hours following the crash.
